My friend April, adventurous sailor and world traveler, had told me of Moonhole not long after we sailed our boats to the Caribbean island of Bequia. The story was one that captured my attention and drew me in instantly. It was a story of an American — Tom Johnston — who dreamed of living a life at one with nature, a life of peacefulness without the trappings of society, without electricity or technology. A story of how that same American, in 1964, founded a community of homes that were built with materials only found on the small island of Bequia — whale bones, rocks, shells, concrete, discarded anchor chains, etc.
