Every Monday night in Central Havana in an apartment on Lealtad Street, people gather together to discuss politics, art, religion, and the future of Cuba. It’s called The Mondays Club and it has happened every week for over 20 years in the apartment of Gabriel Calaforra.
On the outskirts of Havana, in Cuba’s largest public housing project, lives a 94-year-old barber turned diplomat turned artist named Hector Gallo. For the past 30 years, he’s worked on creating his art installation “The Garden and Gallery of Affections.” We went in search of this “garden for the spirit” and ended up spending a day with Mr. Gallo, his wife, and his grandson, David, who tells his story here.
