On 12 November 2019 at about 2.35pm, the Police were informed of a war relic discovered at a construction site along Jiak Kim Street during excavation works. The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has determined that the war relic is a 50kg World War II aerial bomb, and assessed that it is unsafe to move the war relic. Therefore, it has to be disposed on-site. The SAF EOD team will carry out an on-site controlled disposal of the war relic on 18 November 2019 between 8am and 6pm. For the safety of the public, the Police will effect a 200 metres safety cordon around the war relic during this period. The Police have engaged affected residents from Mirage Tower condominium, Tribeca by the Waterfront condominium and Rivergate condominium and they will have to temporarily vacate their buildings during the controlled disposal operation. Similarly, staff from Grand Copthorne Waterfront hotel will make arrangements to temporarily move affected guests away from the area of the hotel that will be affected by the operation. Loud sounds can be expected during the controlled disposal of the war relic. The public is advised not to be alarmed and to avoid the area.

In today’s society vegetarianism has gained a lot of hype. As of recent, vegetarianism appears to be a type of trend. Currently, 25 percent of Americans even claim that they think being a vegetarian is “cool,” according to Time Magazine. It is fair to say that the development of popular frozen vegetarian foods such as to furkey, veggiedogs and black bean burgers are a true testament to the fact that vegetarianism is gaining popularity amongst the masses. Today, vegetarianism has become a sort of movement. Massive support comes from organizations like the Humane Society and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), who have tremendous lobbying power over large companies and organizations. They have led millions of consumers to adjust their diets to not include meat, fish or poultry; and believe it or not, many have followed.

We tend to take comfort in the fact that we won’t live long enough to see the end of the earth. However, given our current path of waste and pollution, the destruction of our planet is expedited beyond control with each passing day, withering into one that’s inhabitable for the future generations. Eco-warriors are people who are determined to make a world a better place through environmental advocacy. Making a commitment to living a conscious, sustainable life isn’t always going to be easy, but easy is what has gotten us into this mess. All clichés aside, it’s important to remember that every little bit does help. Here are 10 things you can incorporate into your life. 1. Get a reusable mug Enough said, coffee is the lifeblood of many. If your daily morning routine includes picking up a cup of joe on-the-go, it’s high time you invest in a reusable mug. Getting a reusable mug is a great way to cut your plastic footprint, and reduce plastic and styrofoam (polystyrene) wastage. Many places also offer discounts to customers who bring their own mugs, so you’ll soon find yourself saving lots of money in the long run. It’s a win for everybody.
ROBB REPORT - Singapore’s alcohol scene can be likened to a constantly revolving door. Every few months or so, a new, hip spot pops up on our radar, flaunting the very latest libations. Be it delicious Champagne brunches, creative cocktail concoctions, enticing happy-hour promos or other delicious finds, there’s always something new to tease your taste buds. Despite that, the craft beer trend has stood the test of time here, and has become Singapore’s buzziest one yet. Typically brewed by independent, small breweries, craft beer emphasises flavour and quality. Want to know what the fuss is all about? These bars in Singapore have plenty to offer.
Have you ever been to a zoo or a museum and been approached by a grizzled volunteer that’s been trained or has a weirdly focused interest on arcana? If the answer’s yes, then you’ve brushed up against a docent. A much less common but no less archaic term is "cicerone". The word cicerone has its roots in Latin, although an educated guess might have it as Spanish and referencing a good time involving deep-fried pork rinds and a Tecate...more on the Tecate in a later post. A cicerone is a guide or navigator, especially when it comes to specialized areas of knowledge or esoterica. So it’s no wonder that beer nerd and founder of the Cicerone organization, Ray Daniels (henceforth known as Yoda), went with cicerone instead of “beer sommelier”. Born out of an obsessive need to stamp out beer illiteracy, and poor beer service in the community of people who serve beer, the Cicerone Certification Program was conceived and then gloriously hatched...from Yoda’s mind to a bar or taproom near you.
