Let me help Democrats here. THIS is how you talk about immigration ... We need to reform our immigration system. Any sovereign nation has the right to enforce their border and control who comes in and out. Take a look at Singapore. Singapore has one of the strictest immigration systems in the world. But Singapore needs foreign workers to make its economy function. They know this. In Singapore it is illegal to work without the proper visa. Guest workers get an Employment Pass, which is tied to their job; if you lose your job you have 30 days to leave (or find a new job). It is also illegal for a company to hire you (even on a freelance basis) unless they have applied (and been approved) for an Employment Pass for you. If a company hires a person without the proper visa, then they will face harsh penalties, and possibly lose the right to do business in Singapore. A foreigner in Singapore cannot do anything without the proper visa. You cannot rent an apartment, you cannot open a bank account, you cannot even get a mobile phone. In short, unless you have a valid visa to be here, there is virtually no way for you stay or function here. The process for getting a work visa is fast, efficient, easy and cheap. If you qualify, then you get a visa. No hassles at all. 1/3 of the population of Singapore are foreign workers, including me. We play a big role in the success of this country, and we stay because it is efficient, safe, clean and fair. Problem solved, America.
