Located just over 1,500 miles from Japan, Tinian was an ideal launch site for the U.S. 509th Composite Group and 313th Bombardment Wing. But first, a massive construction project had to be undertaken on the north end of Tinian. Working for more than 45 days and nights, troops built docks, airport runways, barracks, an administration building, oil storage facilities, weapons depots, an air-conditioned bomb assembly building, and two bomb loading pits. Retiring by the sea might feel like a pipe dream but an attractive proposal by Italy’s new government could soon make it a reality. The plan’s purpose is to repopulate the southern Italian regions of Calabria, Sardinia and Sicily by inviting both national and international retirees to settle tax-free for 10 years. Apart from the obvious lure of not being bothered by the tax collector, there’s the added draw of the low cost of living and a higher quality of life – think sun, sand and incredible fresh produce to name but a few benefits. The proposal is the brainchild of Italy’s controversial far-right party The League, who make up half of the government. It has yet to be brought to parliament but is being suggested as part of an effort to bolster the economy in these regions. Unemployment and a shortage of jobs means that most local millennials have left for greener pastures. The lack of jobs, however, does not pose a problem for retirees. The League estimates they would inject €20,000 to €25,000 ($23,150 to $28,950) into struggling local economies.

Destination unknown - A Cinemagraph motorbike trip Munich, end of october, 11.30 am, 7 degrees, drizzling rain. Not the ideal conditions for a roadtrip. But since I bought my Ducati Scrambler only some months ago, this was the first opportunity this year. Packed a few clothes, my camera and headed westwards. No schedule, just ride, shoot cinemagraphs and go with the flow. Destination unknown. Quickly i realized this was going to be a tough experience. After 400 freezing and wet kilometers I found shelter for the first night at Lichtquell Haus in the Schwarzwald area. Unable to feel my body anymore, i was constantly thinking about giving up and turning back home. But as the next morning welcomed me with sunshine, i decided to really start that journey.

Head shops serve as a reminder of the street's hippie heyday, while stalwart Federal mansions remain a link to the area's more distant—and upscale—past. If something has happened in the East Village in the last two centuries, there's a good chance St. Marks Place has played a role. Yet the street has never been a perfect microcosm of the East Village; those mansions were an anomaly, and the hippies were, too. St. Marks is the most famous street in the East Village, but is it a part of the "real" neighborhood at all? The farmland that today comprises St. Marks Place was originally owned by Dutch Director General Peter Stuyvesant, who bought the bouwerij (or "Bowery" as it came to be known) in 1651. Few traces of Stuyvesant's era remain beyond his own grave, which lies in a vault at St. Mark's Church-in-the-Bowery, the Episcopal parish constructed in 1799 on the site of what had once been Stuyvesant's private chapel. The church sits just off Stuyvesant Street, which ran from the Bowery Lane into the heart of the property; it and the Bowery are the only colonial farm roads in the area that survived the implementation of the Commissioners' Plan for the city in 1811.

The Bergensbanen departs Oslo Central Station several times a day. On the voyage—which averages seven hours—the high-altitude railway line roars across the Hardangervidda plateau, passing landscapes more breathtaking than you can imagine. It barrels through green valleys, sparkling lakes, dense forests, snow-capped mountains, gushing waterfalls, winding rivers, dramatic fjords and a total of 180 tunnels before rolling into its terminus.
