(CNN) — Wild, weird, wonderful... there are many ways to describe the Crazy House (also known as Hang Nga Guesthouse) in Dalat, a relaxed mountain resort town in southern Vietnam. One thing's for sure: This "crazy" complex is one of a kind. Standing in stark contrast to Dalat's French colonial villas, the bizarre avant garde guesthouse is a maze of spiral staircases, sculptural bedrooms, undulating surfaces, swirls of bright colors, narrow bridges and hidden nooks. The artist behind the structure, 79-year-old Dang Viet Nga, says it's the ultimate expression of her imagination. "Crazy House is a culmination of my life and creativity -- it all came together in this structure," Dang, daughter of Vietnam's former general secretary Truong Chinh, tells CNN Travel. "I wanted to create something original, pioneering -- different from anything else in the world." https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/crazy-house-dalat-vietnam/index.html

A far cry from the bustle of South Bali’s beach clubs and bars, Sideman Valley in East Bali is a verdant, undiscovered landscape of emerald green rice terraces, soaring volcanoes, traditional villages and working farms – a nostalgic flashback to the Bali of yesteryear. The climate in this abundant valley is a little cooler compared to Bali’s sun-soaked coastline, making it the perfect temperature to visit mountain-top temples, adventure through jungle-fringed rice fields and trek to the summit of active volcanoes – not to mention slip into a warm bubble bath in one of Sideman’s five-star resorts… Oh yes, despite Sideman Valley’s off-the-grid address, this charming neighbourhood is home to some of the most breathtaking resorts around. You won’t find any high-rise hotels or blaring beach clubs here, but what you will find is a humble collection of boutique destinations, consciously built using all-natural materials.
The largest city in Thailand is more accessible—and far more calm—by the river, exemplified by the lush boutique hotel The Siam and its one-of-a-kind approach to culture, wellness and design. Weave through a quiet-for-Bangkok neighborhood’s palaces and tall walls, and you’ll reach the tranquil entry. Noted as one of the Thai Princess' favorite spots, the blood pressure-dropping palette of all white, black and electric green creates an unmatched sense of arrival. Walking inside feels akin to a fantasy. Ferns drip overhead, glowing with sunlight from a glass pyramid above, while a hall of towering banana leaves arcs over the world’s most elegant reflection pool.
